Safety

Our Main Ideas:
  • Greater transparency in communicating incidents

  • Support for Title IX information

  • Open opportunities for students to work alongside DPS (like Neighborhood Watch)

  • SGA Safety Walks

Mission Statement

Living in a city is no small feat- and although our beautiful campus seems like a paradise on earth, the reality is that safety always has to be considered and taken seriously. We plan to work with DPS through Safety Walks and consistent meetings to inform them about student needs and to learn how we can spread the word about safe living on and off campus.

Furthermore, we want to uphold the long tradition of the Title IX task force, to ensure proper information about Title IX is distributed across campus. We want to ensure the safety, security, and stability of every single student on campus- and the best prevention of crimes or incidents comes from education.

Lastly, we want to work with DPS to have student leaders consistently observing and reporting unusual or unsafe incidents on campus- in essence, we want all students to feel as comfortable as possible speaking to and working with DPS, without the fear of being rejected, misinterpreted, or held responsible for the misdeeds of others. Channels of communication between these student ‘Neighborhood Watches’ and DPS will be opened and maintained by our Executives. This will allow security holes to be patched as soon as they are noticed and reported!
